Hello there!

I'm D.K. Wood, an author from the West Midlands of England and I'm here writing a blog because Tumblr apparently wasn't quite right for Goodreads. Full disclosure, I've never done this before and I have no idea what I'm doing, but this ought to be a good place to follow in the footsteps (or ink lines, if you like) of one of my author heroes - George R. R. Martin. As of writing, he recently expressed his very valid opinions on how his book 'Fire and Blood' was handled during its adaptation to 'House of the Dragon' by HBO and that's stirred up a fair bit of talk online.

Personally I think he had every right to be disappointed over it, and I also think it also should be considered how much power he really had as an executive producer - this isn't something I've ever done, so I can't comment - but either way, he has every right to be unhappy with how it came out. What do you think? Were his criticisms justified or do you think he 'went full Olenna Tyrell' for no reason?

Being a creator comes riddled with dissatisfaction and imposter syndrome, and it doesn't matter what you create - be it music, writing, art, photographs, any form of art comes with it, as far as I can tell it's just a part of being a creative. I don't have anything to really add to that, because it's definitely something that I struggle with and always have done. All I can say is that if you, reader, are struggling with imposter syndrome or dissatisfaction with your work, you are doing an amazing job, your art of whatever form is worth all the time and effort you put into it, and your anxiety is a liar. Honestly, I don't know where I'm going with that bit other than trying to offer some reassurance. I do wonder if people like George R. R. Martin struggle with it to the same extent, though.

I'll be trying to cover things like worldbuilding and my characters as individuals in future posts, if there's something you want to see or if you have any ideas, let me know in the 'contact me' page!

lots of love,

D.K.
